SMALL SCREEN GODDESS

The Small Screen Goddess has a role to play in the Cracked Myth work because she certainly portrays a cracked myth of our adoration of small screen goddesses since the 1920s. However, she might fit into my ancient dystopian world as an oracle reflecting a modern world worshipping digital gods not Grecian Gods. In place of ancient symbols of divination she has a screen instead of a face – is the screen transmitting images or a surveillance device receiving images? This echoes the other surveillance tropes I have been exploring such as the Cyclopes Eyes, the cameras on the Roman pillars and Clio’s great big glasses.

Voyeurism and surveillance

The decaying metropolis might have a huge screen on top of one of the pillars with her face, a Big Sister like being looking down on the desperate citizens. This world’s new goddess of voyeurism and surveillance demanding constant attention from a population caught in their digital realities.

Obvious comparisons are with Orwell’s Big Brother in 1984 and

the hypnotic depiction of dystopia in the film Blade Runner.
