These three are from the left, Hecate, goddess of people with disabilities, wearing her golden prosthetic with pride; Medusa in the middle with a head of snakes’ eggs and the snakes emerging from the cracked box beneath her and finally Asteria whose mother Leto, when escaping from Zeus turned into a quail and flew into the sea becoming the island of Delios. Artemis herself is Zeus and Leto’s daughter and twin to Apollo. Usually shown as a young maiden with a hunting implement. She is the protector of young girls, nature, the moon and disability – hence the prosthetic. Known as Diana in Roman mythology.
